Wisdom shows up in the most unlikely of places. Who would have thought that a couple of twenty year old rockers– Mick Jagger & Keith Richards–would write a song that would not only be voted one of the best songs ever written, but would also give us a refrain that could easily have rolled off the tongue of philosopher, Eckhart Tolle.
You can’t always get what you want…
but if you try sometime, you just might find…you get what you need.
The song is rock & roll at its best—-the music, the arrangement, and Mick Jagger doing that thing he does so well. But there’s something about the title of this song that grabs our attention and strikes a deep cord, much the same way that I Can’t Get No Satisfaction, does. Were these guys philosophers in disguise?
I have come to believe that you can’t always get what you want in life, but NOT because someone’s getting in your way, or because you’re not privileged or entitled to whatever it is you want.
I want to be successful in my business…….BUT I don’t have what it takes.
I want to get out of this relationship…………BUT if I do, I’ll be lonely.I want to make a lot of money…………………..BUT it will never happen in my current job.
Are BIG BUTTS getting in your way of YOU getting what you want?
Any statement that begins with a BUT will always stop you in your tracks. Because at the BOTTOM of every BUT is a feeling of unworthiness, doubt, and insecurity. And how can any of these negative feeling states ever inspire you?
I want to find my right partner…..AND, I feel great anticipation about meeting him.
I want to be successful in my business….AND, I’m learning so much about how to make that happen.
I want to make a lot of money….AND, there are so many people who are doing this, and I look forward to being one of them.
